OpenAI is responding to the fact that many users seek advice on health topics from AI: ChatGPT Health has been unveiled.
For now, the offering is intended for US users only, and even they still have to wait on a waiting list to be given access to the system.
The specialised language model is said to be capable of evaluating patient data independently. The plans for the future are intriguing: it should become possible to connect electronic patient records or fitness watches, and laboratory results are also to be explained in language suitable for laypeople. This could then help with preparing questions for medical appointments.
OpenAI does not consider its offering to be a medical device: it is meant to support medical care, not replace it. According to the company, user data is also protected by additional measures. It remains questionable, however, whether this is sufficient for the European market.
