The efficiency requirement (Section 12 SGB V) obliges health insurers to provide services in a way that is objectively necessary, sufficient and economical, and that does not cause unnecessary costs.
At the same time, services must not compromise the quality and effectiveness of care.
AOK Baden-Württemberg has now published a notice stating that it will begin applying efficiency reviews to DiGA as well from the second quarter of 2026.
