Google is updating its policy on health and medical apps and incorporating elements of MDCG guidance 2025-4 for medical devices under the MDR.

In future, medical device apps in the Play Store will carry a “Medical Device” label, for example.

The New Google Guidelines for Developing Medical Device Software

The policy takes effect on January 28, 2026 and has already been published as a preview: manufacturers will then have to declare their apps correctly in regulatory terms, make data processing transparent, clearly label medical claims and pass a security review by Google, otherwise they risk rejection on Google Play.
