FHIR & HL7 v2: We Handle Interoperability & Integration for Your Healthcare Software
We help companies integrate FHIR and HL7 v2 into their software securely and in line with the standard: from data modelling and interfaces to connecting with existing systems. Certified to ISO 13485 and ISO 27001.
Our FHIR Services
Consulting & Architecture
We analyse your requirements, select the right FHIR resources and profiles and design a robust interoperability architecture for your product.
Interface Development
We develop FHIR-compliant interfaces (REST API, FHIR server, clients) and implement resources, profiles and validation tailored to your use case.
Integration & Migration
We connect FHIR to your existing systems, translate between HL7 v2, proprietary formats and FHIR, and migrate legacy data in a standard-compliant way.
What is FHIR?
FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) is an open standard from the standards organisation HL7 for exchanging health data. FHIR describes medical information in clearly defined, modular resources such as Patient, Observation or Medication and uses modern web technologies like REST and JSON. This makes it far easier and faster to connect systems in healthcare than with older approaches. In Germany, FHIR is the technical basis for numerous applications of the telematics infrastructure and therefore a key building block for interoperable healthcare software.
Where FHIR is used today
Telematics Infrastructure
Applications such as the electronic health record (ePA) and the e-prescription (E-Rezept) are based on FHIR. We support you with standard-compliant integration into the interfaces specified by gematik.
Hospital Interoperability
The ISiK standard (information technology systems in hospitals) relies on FHIR-based interfaces. We help software vendors meet these requirements.
Medical Information Objects
Medical Information Objects (MIO) from the KBV, such as the digital vaccination record or maternity record, are FHIR-based. We implement the right profiles in your application.
How we work
We bring FHIR into your product in three steps.
1. Analysis & Concept
We clarify your use case, the required resources and profiles as well as the relevant standards, and define the target architecture.
2. Implementation
We develop the FHIR interfaces, data models and validation and integrate them into your existing software.
3. Testing, Validation & Operation
We check conformance against the relevant profiles, test interoperability end-to-end and support you into operation.
Frequently asked questions about FHIR integration
Can you also add FHIR to an existing application?
Yes. We analyse your existing architecture and data models and add FHIR interfaces without having to rebuild your system. Where needed, we translate between FHIR and your existing formats.
Which FHIR version do you use?
We usually work with FHIR R4, the most widely used version in Germany and internationally, and follow the profiles that apply to your use case.
Do you also support integration with the telematics infrastructure?
Yes. We have experience with FHIR-based applications of the telematics infrastructure, for example around ePA and GesundheitsID, and support you with standard-compliant integration.
How do you ensure the integration is standard-compliant?
We validate the implemented resources automatically against the relevant FHIR profiles and test interoperability against reference systems. This ensures your interface meets the requirements.
Can we outsource the entire FHIR integration to you?
Yes. On request we handle the entire process from concept through development to operation, so you can focus on your core business.
What sets us apart
ISO 13485 certified
Our quality management system is certified to ISO 13485. This ensures compliant development of software as a medical device and meets the MDR requirements for quality management systems.
ISO 27001 certified
QuickBird Medical is certified to ISO 27001 for information security. We are experts in cybersecurity and data protection for health data.
Legal Manufacturer
If required, we take on the role of legal manufacturer for your medical device software and bear the legal responsibility for MDR compliance. This lets you focus on sales and marketing.
Project reference
ORIKO – the first DiGA for adults with ADHD
For ORIKO, the first DiGA for adults with ADHD, QuickBird Medical handled the technical, regulatory-compliant development, including the connection to the German telematics infrastructure via GesundheitsID and the electronic health record (ePA). These services build on FHIR, so health data is exchanged securely and in line with the standard.
Project reference
INTEGRATE-ATMP – telemedicine platform for gene therapies
Together with Heidelberg University Hospital, QuickBird Medical is building the telemedicine platform for the EUR 13.6 million Innovation Fund project INTEGRATE-ATMP, connecting hospitals, treating physicians and patients. As a central interface in a fragmented care system, it exchanges care data through standardised, interoperable FHIR interfaces.
About QuickBird Medical
In the heart of Munich, our team of over 30 develops software solutions for pharma and medtech companies, hospitals and digital health startups, tailored, regulatory-compliant and certified to ISO 13485 and ISO 27001.
For more than ten years, we have been developing medical device software, implementing integrations in healthcare and advising our clients on them. This is why we know the requirements for interoperable systems inside out. We integrate FHIR into your product in a standard-compliant way and connect it securely to existing systems and the telematics infrastructure.
