The standard “Artificial Intelligence – Quality Management System for EU AI Act regulatory purposes” (prEN 18286) is currently available as a draft and is intended to help companies implement the requirements of the EU AI Act.
Its focus is a quality management system specifically for individual AI systems, making it far more product-oriented than ISO 42001, for example, which addresses organisational processes instead.
The aim of the standard is to give manufacturers a structured basis for demonstrating the quality, safety and compliance of AI systems. The European Commission already lists prEN 18286 on its official overview page on AI Act standardisation, which underlines its future relevance for putting the AI Act into practice.
National standardisation bodies now have 12 weeks to vote and submit comments.
