On May 8, 2026, Whoop announced a platform expansion that shifts the company from traditional fitness trackers toward clinical care.
The announcement came one day after Google unveiled the Fitbit Air and is part of a trend in which consumer device providers are increasingly integrating their data foundation – comprising heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, sleep, and activity data – with medical care logic.
Whoop will offer the following features in the future:
- Starting in the summer of 2026, Whoop members in the U.S. will be able to speak with licensed doctors via video call directly from the app. According to a press release, the consultation begins with a review of months of continuous Whoop data, as well as optional lab results and medical history.
- Through a partnership with HealthEx, members can consolidate their medical records into their Whoop profile. The data will be made available to the treating physician during the video call.
- A persistent context store for the Whoop AI: Users can enter, view, edit, and delete information about health goals, chronic conditions, and upcoming events. Recommendations are then based not only on measurement data but also on a personal knowledge base maintained by the user.
- Context-based reminders triggered without a user request, such as sleep recommendations before important appointments or adjustments to workout routines when traveling across time zones.
The expansion of features is interesting: The Whoop app remains, technically, a fitness and wellness product. However, some individual features are FDA-cleared (the ECG feature since April 2025), while Whoop’s Blood Pressure Insights feature has been the subject of an ongoing dispute with the FDA since July 2025 (Warning Letter, Class Action). The features now announced are not FDA-cleared medical devices. This further tests the line between lifestyle data and advice on one hand, and clinical decision support on the other.
