On July 12, 2024, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 laying down harmonised rules on artificial intelligence (the AI Act) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
It enters into force twenty days after publication.
Some rules, such as the ban on AI systems with “unacceptable risk”, take effect after just six months, while other provisions come into effect in stages up to 36 months after the act enters into force.
